Initially announced in September 2008, the transaction was completed after receiving the required shareholders' vote and satisfaction of the required closing conditions, as set forth in the asset purchase agreement previously filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Larry Blanford, president and CEO of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR), said: "This acquisition hits at the intersection of our goals, to bring an outstanding specialty coffee brand into our family of brands and to expand GMCR's West Coast presence. The acquisition strengthens our leadership in specialty coffee and will support our plans to establish our proprietary Keurig Single-Cup Brewing system as the preferred way to enjoy coffee throughout North America." Tully's retail locations will continue to operate under license and supply agreements with GMCR. The retail and international business will remain an independent company, operating under the name of TC Global, owned by its existing shareholders, and managed by its existing management team.

Eateries cook up ways to woo diners on budget
Bagel Station owner Lisa Jackson can pinpoint the exact fall day when her steady lunch business changed drastically: Oct. 16, a low point in the shaky stock market. "Everything was going great up until then, then nothing. Nothing," she says. Now she's noticing more late-afternoon customers will buy a side dish or dessert for their dinner at home. But that trend hasn't offset the recession's effect on the eatery she's owned for 25 years. "If it stopped tomorrow, it wouldn't be soon enough. I don't think anybody in this industry has been immune. I think everybody's felt a huge dent, ..." she says. On a typical weekend or holiday, local restaurants might seem busy. Cars pack parking lots and long waits are common at many places during the dinner hour.

Dairy allergies, lactose intolerance and an interest in healthier beverages have all sparked a proliferation of alternative milk products. The new "milks," however, are milk only in name. (Would you buy "soy juice"?) Most come from nuts, seeds, grains and legumes. They don't taste like cow's milk and usually have less protein.
