Young adults are the fastest-growing segment of coffee drinkers, according to the 2007 “National Coffee Drinking Trends,” a report by the National Coffee Association. Thirty-seven percent of those 18- to 24-years-old report drinking coffee, up from 31 percent of respondents in that age bracket in 2006 and 26 percent in 2005.

In the 25 to 29 age group, 44 percent report they are coffee drinkers, down from 47 percent in the prior year.

Of respondents between 40 and 59, 61 percent are coffee drinkers, up from 59 percent in 2006.

And older consumers are the greatest coffee drinkers: 74 percent of those 60 and over said they were in 2007, up from 73 percent in 2006.

National Coffee Drinking Trends has been tracking coffee consumption in the United States since 1950. The report compiles information from 2,950 respondents.
