Red Lobster: Apparently Still off the Glenn Beck Show

September 17, 2009

Earlier this week I received an email from ColorOfchange.org, which bills itself as "the largest online African-American political organization in the country." Last month the group launched a boycott of the Fox Network's "Glenn Beck Show" after host Glenn Beck called President Barack Obama a "racist." Dozens of advertisers complied by pulling their ads, including Red Lobster.
In the email spokeswoman Dani McLain of ColorOfChange.org said that the organization, which monitors the show, hadn't spotted a Red Lobster commercial since August 7. A recent call to Red Lobster President Kim Lopdrop was not returned. Beck made the remark on July 28.
Clarence Otis, the CEO of Darden Restaurants, which owns Red Lobster, is African American.
Curiously, the seafood chain is left off of a list of companies compiled by ColorOfChange.org that have dropped plans to advertise on the controversial program:

Aegon, Ashley Furniture, Airware Inc. (makers of Brez anti-snoring aids), Allergan (maker of Restasis), Ally Bank (a unit of GMAC Financial Services), Ancestry.com, Applebee’s, AT&T, Bank of America, Best Buy, Binder & Binder, Blaine Labs Inc., Broadview Security, Campbell Soup Company, Capital One, ConAgra, Clorox, CVS, The Dannon Company, DirecTv, Discover, Ditech, The Elations Company, Experian (creator of FreeCreditReport.com), Farmers Insurance Group, GEICO, General Mills, HSBC, Humana, ICAN Benefit Group Insurance, Infiniti, Jelmar (manufacturer of CLR All-Purpose Cleaner) Johnson & Johnson (makers of Tylenol), Jordan McKenna Debt Counseling Network, Kraft, Lawyers.com, Lowe’s, Luxottica Retail (retail parent of LensCrafters and Pearle Vision), Men’s Wearhouse, Mercedes-Benz, NutriSystem, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, RadioShack, Re-Bath, Regions Financial Corporation, Roche, Sam (Store and Move), SC Johnson, Sanofi-Aventis, Sargento, Simplex Healthcare (creator of the Diabetes Care Club), Sprint, State Farm Insurance, Traveler’s Insurance, Travelocity, United States Postal Service, The UPS Store, Verizon Wireless, Vonage, Wal-Mart and Wyeth Consumer Healthcare.

I will double up and leave big tips to make up for Guy Ponti. A unified America is a much better thing!

now that I see the list of boycotters I'll make sure that my money does not go to them

Odd how a white can be called a racist, like those who are against Obamas agenda, but to call a black person a racist is racist. Beck is right but I would have added borderline communist to the titles. Obama said we would be able to tell who he was by the people he surrounded himself with. Van Jones, Rev. Wright, Bill Ayres, Acorn, John Holdren, Frank Marshall Davis, his own socialistic mother and Grandparents, Cass Sunstein...and the list goes on.

at 9/17/2009 4:40:48 PM, PAUL FONDA commented:
THANKS FOR THE LIST. NOW I KNOW WHERE NOT TO SPEND MONEY. OBAMA IS ONE OF THE FEW INTELLECTUAL MORONS THAT HAS NO CLUE AS TO WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES OF HIS ACTIONS WILL DO TO THIS COUNTRY.
HE IS NOT A BAD MAN, JUST A DUMB ONE THAT SPEAKS WELL.

Mmmm. Red Lobster. I suddenly have a craving for cheese biscuits.

at 9/17/2009 8:13:32 PM, Nutcase commented:
Why is it that everyone that criticizes Obama only can call him names and never his policies other than vague references to socialism? When is the last time Beck has actually picked an issue and said, "this is whats wrong with it, this is how it should be done." Never. He never does that because is a entertainer. His job is to get people riled up and intelligent conversation doesn't do that in America.

I now know where I will NOT be spending my money. Will also be forwarding this list to all my friends and family. They cannot squash free speech from someone who speaks the truth.

I have spent 23 years in the military , I have owned several successful companies. Now I am looking at what is happening in our country ( a service country), and it scares me. America wake up and tell your elected officials that we want a real change NOW. Health Care needs reform, but not a government take over we need torte reform to help lower our health costs. We need control or at least some say in the Czars that are appointed. Keep the Academics in College and let the businessmen run the businesses. This reversal by Obama is going to destroy our beloved country. It would be nice if all elected officials pledged allegiance to the flag of our country and honr the flag and the Constitution.
We do need change, but the right kind. Man were we fooled.

Wake Up America and realize that the 23 year military veteran is on a government funded health care program for Vets. Realize that Bush spent more, spied on Americans more, and was on course to ruin the USA had he had more time. Give Obama a fair shake.

at 9/18/2009 10:23:10 AM, az commented:
some of the comments are funny. How can you boycott Proctor and Gamble (manufature your own soap, blades, toothpaste etc.), Walmart, the list goes on. Let's be real. The military veteran is ok with govt funded program for himself but not for others??

at 9/18/2009 1:44:37 PM, Exasperated commented:
Hey Nutcase: You have obviously never watched or listened to his show. One of the things that makes Mr. Beck great is that he DOES dissect the policy, explain why its bad for America, and offer alternatives. Try tuning in, you might learn something.

at 9/18/2009 8:24:06 PM, Fox is not Journalism commented:
Fox is a network purely made up of Right wing opinion and never fact. They dont even have reporters. Get a pen and watch fox news and write down how many times they say "some people say" or "many say." Its fox who says it. All the fox supporters are not intelligent enough to ever consider integrity in journalism because most of them have no integrity

at 9/20/2009 1:10:44 AM, Kash4Krunkers commented:
Unfortunately, some of the entities listed above will be difficult to boycott, such as UPS and the USPS. But, I'll do my best to avoid the others and to spread the word. Obama and his neocommie buddies will pay for their deeds in the end. And, it can't come too soon, either!

at 9/21/2009 5:26:46 PM, Logical and Reasonable commented:
What good came out of the last eight years of Bush rule? Why is it that a change is so difficult comeby? Human nature I guess! Because of our government's structure, no one person can take down our country. One one person is greater than the constitution. Chill out and let change happen.
