It turns out that AFA was slightly too eager to slam the hamburger giant and yesterday issued a retraction, of sorts. McDonald's apparently protested that the AFA quoted Micky D CEO James Skinner out of context. And, further, that the fast-feeder was not supporting a gay lifestyle by permitting an executive to join the NGLCC's board of directors.
Still, Wildmon, who has a track record of calling for boycotts against companies that do not promote his Christian ideals, remains unrepentant:
Here's another indisputable fact -- and a great sign IMHO: McDonald's is reaching out publicly to entrepreneurs, no matter their stripes.
McDonald's "gay support" issue
April 8, 2008
The American Family Assn., a Tupelo, Miss.-based family-values group led by Donald E. Wildmon recently alerted members that McDonald's Corp. was "aggressively supporting" a homosexual agenda. The evidence: the company's VP of Communications, Richard Ellis, joined the board of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (so have executives from IBM, Motorola and Wells Fargo).
| According to McDonald's CEO Jim Skinner, McDonald's will aggressively promote the homosexual agenda. In remarks on McDonald's Web site concerning the company becoming a member of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), Skinner wrote: "Being a socially responsible organization is a fundamental part of who we are. We have an obligation to use our size and resources to make a difference in the world...and we do." |
Still, Wildmon, who has a track record of calling for boycotts against companies that do not promote his Christian ideals, remains unrepentant:

Here is the indisputable fact about McDonald’s: McDonald's joined the NGLCC and have a position on the NGLCC Board of Directors. |

I eat at McDonalds because I like the food, not because of their views. I'm tired of these so called angels of moral value mandating how the rest of he world should think! Get a real life!

Get over it!! I am sure gay people eat and work at MacDonald's

Ignorant people, the issue is not whether gay people eat and work @ Mcdonald's,or views...the issue is that now they're supporting an organization (NGLCC) that lobbies Congress to enact laws that can be used to repress religious freedom or undermine the sanctity of marriage.
If Mcdonald's would be placing mangers for Christmas, I'm sure you people would be "mandating how the rest of he world should think!" and demanding the mangers to be put down since you'd be "offended".
Get a real life! Idiots.

I wonder had McDonalds joined the NRA, would the support of the "get over it" crowd be as strong?
Make a list of social groups i your head that you don't agree with, imagine McDonalds joining that group.

I am sick of all the *GET OVER IT* comments.just because we believe its wrong to go there does not mean people have to run all over us.The only reason we don't go is because we don't think its Gods will.
Please try to accept that.

The people who believe that "it's no big deal", I've got news for ya. It is. Because it goes against all moral values. Maybe not yours but that's because some people have let themselves be suctioned into the way the world is today and that is very sad. All I can say is they might want to think again because if they're not ready when the Lord comes back then they will regret not re-thinking the way they should be living their lives.

I feel sorry for all the people who cannot open their eyes and see what is coming. This nation is being taken apart piece by piece. The one's who think we should "get over it" need to realize there is right and wrong period. This is wrong!!!!!!!!!!

Christians- I'm with you on the concern- but- we shouldn't be shocked and outraged at the fact that the world is going in the opposite direction that we are. This is EARTH and not HEAVEN.(do we believe Jesus when he tells us that we will have trouble and the world will hate us?)There are more important issues here than religious freedoms-instead of fighting to try and make America more friendly toward Jesus, we need to be more concerned about befriending and loving others into the Kingdom of God. Fighting for our rights is unbecoming of a people who follow One who gave up every right out of love for us all. Religious freedom has done nothing but make the church more like the world surrounding it. Look to the countries where there is no religious freedom and see how much more vibrant their walk is! Go back a few hundred years and you will see that persecution ALWAYS resulted in planting churches, and seeds of faith were scattered to other places and multiplied.
Take the way of the "friend of sinners" and allow the kindness of God to lead them to repentance- remember who you were when you were called! Jesus HUNG OUT WITH those whom the religious leaders of his day scorned, shunned and ridiculed. Right and wrong do exist, but people are not guilty by association in the eyes of God- or our faith is worth nothing! They called him a drunkard and a glutton- and I doubt that he spent much time telling those he was at the parties with how wrong they were, or he wouldn't have been around them enough to gain that reputation!
Our Lord told us to take care of the needs of our enemies. If they need food shelter, clothing, friendship, medical coverage, etc, who are we listening to when we deny them these things? Jesus told his disciples to do more for their oppressive governing people than was required, "go the extra mile, give not just your cloak, but also your tunic." and this is the way he told us to fight this fight. His way is always best.

Get ready McDonald's. You can do whatever you want. But if you choose to ignore the wishes of the people who value what the Bible says about families, you will see your company go the same way as Ford Motor Company. Maybe you should change your name to Humpty Dumpty's.

I don't care what the bible says. It's a fantasy book written in the Bronze Age. It has zero to do with my life.
All these people are doing is using Jesus as an excuse for their hate and bigotry.

Did you think Ronald McDonald was straight?

To Realist: Note that you've been tricked by liberal redefinition of words. NOTHING that anyone opposing McDonald's actions has said has anything to do with hate or bigotry.

Everyone should go on the NGLCC website. The largest corporations in mosts fields are either corporate sponsors or members of the advisory board.
The AFA are a bunch of hypocrites for singling out one company.

I'm sorry, but, I have to agree with the one commentor who stated that the bible is a neolithic text from eons ago when the common goal was to idealize the popular thought to ones own beliefs and
control the masses. MCDonalds has the right as a corporation to support whomever they please to support. We all live on one planet and need to get along with each other and forget our differences. It starts with one person, pass it on!!!!

Your comments are welcomed on this thought. Supposed that Jesus was gay, would you feel the same way if he were to return today and felt like eating at McDonalds with his 12 male disciples??

Seems the only bigotry around here is the anti-Christian kind.

I agree with Mariposa, however, I do not believe we (Christians) are supposed to support those who support what is immoral (that is why I do not spend my money at McDonald's). Yes, love the sinners, but hate the sin... and remember, there is a Judgement Day and ONE JUDGE!

Well McDonalds forced him to resign from the NGLCC. This is obviously a step toward a world free from evil gay people. Those who use the Bible as a tool for bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination can now rejoice! In other news, Big Macs are better now because they taste more like Jesus!
at 10/12/2008 12:09:26 PM, Love commented:
I am glad that they 'backed down'. The Bible is not used as a tool for bigotry, prejudice or discrimintation. It is used as a tool to show the Lords love and grace for EVERYONE. Christ died for EVERYONE-& Christ DOES love those those who commit these sins, but in the same manner HE does not love the act that they are committing. Have you ever loved someone so much, but hated the fact that they smoked, drank, or just bit their finger nails? It is in the same way that the Lord loves the person, but not the act {or sin}. Praise the Lord that people stood up for what is right, and that McDonalds did hede the 'warning'.

at 3/27/2009 9:41:03 AM, Daniel in Atlanta commented:
McDonald's, as a corporate entity, has NOT joined the NGLCC; one of their executives has. The implication here seems to be that McDonald's is "supporting the gay agenda" because it has not restricted what its employees can and cannot do outside of work. Is that the country we want to live in--one where our employers control aspects of our lives unrelated to the job we do?
