Tell Me: Is This Ad Weird, or What?

March 31, 2009
Captain D's is back at it, harassing Red Lobster with another Internet commercial shot just outside a unit of the venerable seafood chain. This time, the fast-feeder announces it is dispatching its own cease and desist letter.
You may recall that last fall Captain D's aired a provocative spot disparaging Red Lobster's prices (and, by implcation, its food). That commercial was also shot with a Red Lobster restaurant in the background. As expected, Red Lobster officials sent Captain D's a cease and desist letter. In turn, Captain D's aired a spot in which a spokesman-actor tore the letter (or a piece of paper) to pieces.
Now things are getting weird. If you don't believe me, watch the commercial and tell me: Just what does it have to do with Captain D's?

I love it! They underdstand the consumer today! Red Lobster may have over played their hand once again. How many remodels have thay had that missed the mark? Where's the Lobster?

I love the video. It's not really an ad, since it is 2 1/2 minutes long. Perfect for YouTube and the audience. I always am a sucker for well done David and Goliath approaches. Their original ad should have been ignored by Red Lobster and they never would have had the ammunition to do the video. Death by neglect. Now they have a campaign.
