Show time
May 17, 2008
I'm fairly certain the "theme" of this year's National Restaurant Association Show, in Chicago, is sustainability, the concept that Mother Earth requires constant tender-loving care. I'm on board with that. But, apparently, some folks didn't get the memo. This morning I awoke to find that three "Show" magazines had been left outside my door.
They total some 212 pages and who knows how much ink. That's a lot of trees. I checked for some mention of "printed on recycled paper." If any of the publications mention it, it must be in very small print becasue I couldn't find it. There is also no sign -- despite each one's purported "news" stories -- that sustainability or green efforts are front and center at this year's Show. At least not in the first few pages.

Next stop: NRA Show
As a result, I'm left wondering how many people out of the 74,000 attending read these "magazines" when much the same information is available in the NRA's booklet. Come to think of it, I wonder if it's printed on recycled paper.
