Wendy's in Real Time

October 13, 2009
Wendy's "you know when it's real" commercials are on the air, and I am relieved. Really.

I never liked the "better than fast food" tag. Wendy's is fast food. And those crazy red wigs? Don't get me started.

What I like most about the new spots isn't the fact that they're clever, though they are. It's the focus on fresh, juicy burgers. They remind me of the old commercials where Wendy's customers needed lots of napkins because they were dripping all over themselves. Ah, a point of differentiation!

Here is the 60-second extended version. What do you think? Reply in the comment box below.

And, as always, if you see a restaurant chain commercial or other video you'd like to see in this space, shoot an e-mail to chainleader@reedbusiness.com

Wendy's is by far the best fast food product out there. You never feel like crap an hour later like when you eat McDonalds and BK. Quality is their recipe.

Average spot, dreadful jingle.

This is one of the worst commercials I've seen from a national company in quite awhile! I agree with sadairs - lousy jingle.

I've seen this commercial and until your article never realized it was a wendy's commercial. I think largely because I turn the channel before they get to the point.

It seems like a good attempt, but perhaps a little too subtle, a little too 1960's folk song. However, the arrival of Honest Abe at the 0:38 mark did make me laugh.

Why do they say fresh when they use a hold the pre-cooked burger in a warm grill holding area and reheat to serve system. I don't get why they act like they cook to order when they don't.
