Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group plans to bring its beloved Shake Shack to Miami in spring/summer 2010.

-- Chain Leader, 11/6/2009 8:10:00 AM

PRESS RELEASE: November 5, 2009, New York - Introducing Miami's new vice: Shake Shack. Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) plans to bring its beloved Shake Shack to Miami in spring/summer 2010. One of NYC's most loved and lauded eateries, Shake Shack is a modern day "roadside" burger stand known for its delicious burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, beer, wine and more. Shake Shack's move to Miami marks the first time USHG will open a business outside of New York City.

The new Shake Shack will be located in the heart of Miami Beach's premier pedestrian promenade at 11 11 Lincoln Road (1111lincolnroad.com), just off Lincoln Road on Lenox Avenue. 11 11 Lincoln Road is the groundbreaking retail and residential project from developer Robert Wennett and world-renowned architects Herzog and de Meuron. Shake Shack's new home will be designed by SITE Environmental Design, the same team that designed both the original Shake Shack in Madison Square Park and the second Shack location on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Guests will have the opportunity to sit indoors or outside, or enjoy a ShackBurger and a frozen custard surrounded by lush water gardens or under the shade of 50-year-old oak trees in the development's stunning promenade.

"My colleagues and I are incredibly excited to introduce Shake Shack to Miami. We love the city's dynamic culture and community - its strong sense of place - and we believe it is the ideal next home for Shake Shack." said Danny Meyer, CEO of USHG. "We are proud that Robert Wennett selected Shake Shack to augment his exceptional vision for 11 11 Lincoln Road, and our confidence in this project was one of the many reasons we selected Miami as our first foray beyond New York."

The Miami Shake Shack will build upon the success of three beloved siblings throughout New York City - Madison Square Park (the original Shack, founded in 2004), Upper West Side (2008) and Citi Field, home of the New York Mets (2009) - and will arrive on the heels of Shake Shack's fourth Manhattan location in Nolita (2010).

Shake Shack was born from a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park created by Union Square Hospitality Group to support the Madison Square Park Conservancy's first art installation "I ?Taxi." The cart was a success and lines formed daily, so it re-opened for an additional two summers in 2002 and 2003. In July 2004 USHG was awarded the contract from New York City's Department of Parks & Recreation and the Madison Square Park Conservancy to create a permanent food kiosk in the park. Shake Shack opened and instantly became a beloved NYC institution with a loyal following, receiving numerous accolades from the press including The New York Times, New York Magazine, Food & Wine, Travel & Leisure, Wall Street Journal, USA Today  and was voted one of the Most Popular Restaurants in New York according to Zagat.

Shake Shack is part of Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG), which includes some of New York City's most beloved restaurants: Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park, Tabla, Blue Smoke/Jazz Standard, The Modern, Cafe 2 and Terrace 5, located at the Museum of Modern Art, El Verano Taqueria and Box Frites (both at Citi Field), Maialino, located at the Gramercy Park Hotel, as well as Hudson Yards Catering. Each USHG restaurant is lovingly hand crafted and distinctive, and each strives to distinguish itself for warm hospitality and consistent excellence. Danny, his restaurants and chefs have earned an unprecedented 20 James Beard Awards, including: Outstanding Restaurant of the Year; Outstanding Service; Outstanding Wine Service; Humanitarian of the Year; Who's Who of Food & Beverage; Best Restaurant Design; and Best Restaurant Graphic Design. All five of USHG's fine dining restaurants have earned three stars from The New York Times and in 2009, Eleven Madison Park was upgraded to four stars. For the past decade, Union Square Cafe and Gramercy Tavern have vied for #1 and #2 among Zagat's Most Popular Restaurants in New York.
