(Warwick, RI) May 2, 2008—When news started spreading that the popular ABC television show, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," known for changing the lives and renovating the homes of deserving families, had decided to extend their helping hand to the Silva family of Warwick, RI, a number of SUBWAY(R) franchisees volunteered to help any way they could.www.subway.com.
Ken and Doreen Silva have two children of their own, both with autism, three adopted children, all with disabilities, and two foster children. During a six year period, the Silvas have been foster parents to 16 children. Their one-story house was deemed too small and unhealthy when inspectors found dangerous levels of lead paint and the children tested positive for having high levels of lead in their systems. With the threat of being split apart and only the financial support of Ken's income as a garbage truck driver, making home improvements became a huge challenge for the family until they were selected to be featured on the nationally broadcast program.
During the course of demolition and reconstruction, seven SUBWAY(R) restaurants in Warwick, Cranston, Providence and Greenville donated nearly 200 meals to the army of volunteers, program cast and crew, and organizers, working around the clock in order for the project to be completed within a one week time frame. Meal deliveries, consisting of a variety of SUBWAY(R) 6-inch submarine sandwiches, chips and cookies, were made to the site anytime between noon and ten o'clock at night every day, depending on the needs of the workers.
"Everyone was delighted and extremely appreciative of the fresh treats provided by the local Subway restaurants. Our team worked really hard to prepare the orders, in addition to keeping up with our regular business," said Danielle Chouha, Field Consultant for the SUBWAY(R) Development office in Rhode Island. "We were very proud to be able to contribute in some way to help the Silva family in this amazing undertaking going on right here in our own community."

The program is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. Denise Cramsey is the executive producer; and David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA.
