Restauratour: Photographic tour of Benihana

Scroll down for a photo tour of Benihana.

By Lisa Bertagnoli, Contributing Editor -- Chain Leader, 8/1/2006

1. Textures like bamboo and stone evoke natural surroundings at Benihana.

2. A video projection of bamboo hovers above the sushi counter.

3. Concrete flooring gives the room a modern feeling.

4. A round center area housing the bar and sushi counter gives guests an alternative to the teppanyaki tables.

5. Windows embedded in the curved stone wall let guests peer into the bar.

6. Spot lighting calls attention to Benihana’s teppanyaki chefs.

7. The array of 18 teppanyaki tables includes two large, semiprivate booths.

8. The red of the right-side dining room signifies “spirit” factors such as the heart and healing.
9. Benihana’s black-paned windows, covered by scrims during the day, are inspired by traditional Japanese architecture.
10. Hood ornaments in the “earthen” room depict power and energy.
11. Bamboo screens help break up the 7,500-square-foot space into several dining areas.
12. The 20-foot-high blacked-out ceiling, jutting wood beams and stained concrete floor recalls a stage.
