Robert W Laforteza - 2009-23-6 02:08:00 MDT -
My name is Claudia A. Calero, I currently attend
University of Saint Thomas in Houston, Texas. I dined
at Joe's Crab Shack at May 10, 2000. I was with my two
sisters and brother, I brought up a bill about $100,
and had the chance to talk to David that evening about
your famous crab cakes. It was out first time in
Galveston, and in that process I left my wallet on the
table. We had gone about half-way back to Houston, and
we turned back around after we had called and been told
that I would have to talk to the manager to see if they
had my wallet. So we made the trip back, and when I
came there they informed me that it was not there, they
searched everywhere. This was then around closing time,
10pm. They told us we would have to leave then for them
to close up. At that point I was very worried about
loosing my wallet, because it had $100 cash that was
meant for my summer class. We had gone to Galveston to
celebrate, and I take full responsibility about loosing
that wallet, bu
t I think they could have acted more professional, I
felt that after that long trip I made they were not
attentive nor sympathetic...I was not trying to blame
anyone, or make trouble, I just wanted to know if they
had found it.
When we came home, the next morning I looked all around
the car and luggage. I found the number online, and
tried calling all the numbers there. I knew the only
place would be there that I lost it. Since I last had
it when I paid for the meal. I talked to Barbie, she
was very helpful, and made the effort to look at the
other places not just the safety box. She found it in
the hostess stand, and commented that it should not
have been there, and she would keep it locked up until
I came or she spoke to the general manager, David about
it. I made plans for it to be mailed, but she said it
would not be guaranteed safe shipment, and she didn't
know if she could give me a tracking number to follow.
Over the next two days, I spoke to different managers
and employees about how I could have it shipped, and if
there was a tracking number available once it was
shipped, and if it was possible at all to ship it. They
told me to call back, but every time I spoke to
different managers, Feli
ce and Chris were also very helpful, but I do not think
they listened carefully. They were interrupting and
talking over me, and I told them I just need them to
listen and give me an answer at that moment, I could
not wait any longer to see if I should wait for them to
ship it or me pick it up.
I finally decided to just make the trip from Houston
back to Galveston, and was excused from work.school
etc. I had no problem to make the effort to get it
faster, since it was now Saturday, and Barbie told me
at the end that it would come Tuesday since Memorial
was coming up. I just needed the answer to make the
move, so when I arrived there Barbie helped me fast,
and when I checked it she had left. I noticed that the
chain was inside, and that meant someone had gotten the
money that was connected and then inserted it back into
the wallet. I was so dissapointed, but happy everything
else was intact. When I then asked to speak to Barbie
again the staff was really distracted, there was 7 of
them in the front, and none asked me if I wanted water
or that I could sit at a table near them. Barbie was
very helpful, and she got David so I could explain the
situation to him.
David gave me your number to contact, since he said
there was nothing he could do. This was out of his
reach with anything else, in form of any compensation
that he could do. I thought that he would at least give
some kind of condolence for the wait I had to make, and
the run around I felt I went through to get my wallet.
I understood he did not want to take any responsibility
about those things, and so I knew I was at the end of
help with him at that moment. He said he was not there
when I came back, and alot of things could have
happened before it was in the safe, and when he got it
there was no money there that he could tell. I just
felt like there was at least something he could have
offered, because I had dined there, made the trip back
two times, and was not blaming anyone for my mistake
about loosing the wallet. I wanted him to take the
responsibility that his employees did not make the
necessary effort to find it in the first place, did not
listen when I all I wanted
to know was if I should pick it up or if they could
mail it to me, and in the end just some common
courtesy...its not just business but people in this
restaurant service.
If nothing comes from this, I understand. I just wanted
to get it off my chest, because I felt like I was
hitting a wall with David. Excuse the long email, I
know how busy you must be, but this was very
distressing to me, and I felt like none offered any
help, and like David said, there was 'nothing' they
could do. Not even offer a cup of water, a gift card
for excusing the long wait and unclarity, or just a
sorry that I had to make 2 trips to Galveston because
none was giving me answers on the phone.
I would also like to inform you and David, that I will
be both posting and documenting the progress of this
follow-up, and use this as a review of the Galveston
restaurants for the Houston universities website of
"summer get-aways".
Thank you for your patience and time,
Claudia Ariana Calero

-in my experience in the food industry and customer
service, I would recommend you take some fragments of
my email and let your employees read it to learn better
how to serve a customer if this incident happens,
because it seemed like I was the first customer to have
lost something, and none knew what to do, or did not
want to let me know-
