-- Chain Leader, 10/9/2009 8:32:00 AM

PRESS RELEASE: SAN DIEGO, October 8, 2009 - The National Minority Franchising Initiative (NMFI) has named Jack in the Box(r) restaurants to its annual list of "50 Top Franchises for Minorities." Jack in the Box was selected from among hundreds of companies representing more than a dozen different industries. Among the criteria considered by NMFI were system size (minimum of 50 franchised units), the number of operating units owned by minorities (both absolute and as a percentage of the total number), and the number of minorities in senior management earning more than $60,000 per year.

This is the second distinction bestowed upon Jack in the Box Inc. for diversity in the past year. Last November, the University of California, Davis Graduate School of Management surveyed California's 400 largest public companies, and Jack in the Box Inc. achieved one of the highest ratings for having women in leadership roles.

"We're extremely proud of the diversity that spans all levels of our organization, from our restaurants and franchise community to our management team and board of directors," said Linda Lang, chairman and chief executive officer of Jack in the Box Inc. "We're especially proud of the personal and professional achievements of our minority franchisees, who are actively involved in expanding the Jack in the Box brand in existing and new markets."

This was the third such survey commissioned by NMFI. For a complete list of honorees, visit http://www.worldfranchising.com/download/2009Top50.xls.

About the National Minority Franchising Initiative

The National Minority Franchising Initiative (NMFI) was created in 2000 to level the playing field and meet the needs of a largely under-represented market. The multi-faceted NMFI program, which involves the www.MinorityFranchising.com website, the Minority Franchise Guide publication and franchise-related events throughout the country, represents an effective and cost-efficient tool for franchisors to increase minority representation within their systems.
