Johnny Rockets Names September National Shake Month

Annual celebration for frozen treat begins with new product from global restaurant chain.

-- Chain Leader, 9/10/2009 8:58:00 AM

PRESS RELEASE: LAKE FOREST, Calif., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Staking claim to one of the Country's favorite cold beverages, Johnny Rockets has announced their support of a new national tradition celebrating the classic all-American shake. Declaring September as National Shake Month, the chain is launching a number of entertaining and educational events in observance of the popular refreshment.

Beginning with the marriage of two classic American brands, the chain will roll out a first-ever Cherry KOOL-AID Shake, available September 7th through October 19th, at all U.S. Johnny Rockets restaurants. The new product will be supported with a number of in-store displays and featured as the "Shake of the Month," nationally.

"KOOL-AID has been an American favorite, representing fun for generations," said Gregory Nesmith, KOOL-AID senior brand manager. "Finding a new way to package and present our fans' preferred flavor is something we're really excited about and we think Johnny Rockets' is just the outlet for putting a new twist on this timeless favorite."

Johnny Rockets is just as eager to launch the new limited-time offer. "We are committed to providing our guests with the familiar foods and flavors they love," explained the brand's Executive Director of National Marketing, Tim Gorman. "Combining our famous hand-dipped shakes with the Cherry KOOL-AID taste we all grew to love as kids is something the guests in our test markets really seemed to enjoy. Now, we're eager for everyone to try it."

Gorman adds, "This is the first of what hope will be several product collaborations between Johnny Rockets and Kraft food brands."

Following the new shake introduction, Johnny Rockets will launch a year-round Web page, dedicated to shake trivia, history and online specials. Later, the famous restaurant chain will call on its heritage of dancing by hosting a "Show Us Your Shake" promotion in which guests demonstrate a favorite dance move in exchange for a half-price Original Shake or Malt.

As home of hand-blended shakes, Johnny Rockets mixes by-hand scoops of their proprietary blend of extra fancy Danish vanilla ice cream and milk using a stainless steel cup and special Multimixer blender with spindles that gently spin and mix the ingredients to a velvety smooth consistency. Chocolate, vanilla, malt and other ingredients are added to guests' specifications.

Not only a preferred item on the Johnny Rockets menu, a 16-oz. shake also provides 59% of the recommended daily allowance of calcium and 16 grams of protein.
