Hardee's Introduces Fried Bologna Biscuit

Hardee's introduces the ultimate breakfast comfort food: new Oscar Mayer Fried Bologna Biscuit is a down home, Southern favorite.

-- Chain Leader, 8/24/2009 8:57:00 AM

HardeePRESS RELEASE: ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nothing conjures up the memories of youth and the comforts of home quite like a classic bologna sandwich. In the southeastern United States, a unique method of preparing bologna has long been a staple on diner menus from West Virginia to Arkansas. "Fried bologna," actually made by browning bologna on a flat-grill, is often served in a sandwich, scrambled with eggs and cheese for breakfast, or, of course, paired with a biscuit.

"Several of our southern franchisees have been asking us to try Fried Bologna Biscuits for some time but we initially weren't sure how popular they would be outside of the South where they originated," said Brad Haley, Hardee's Executive Vice President of Marketing. "However, we have had success introducing other regional southern breakfast specialties, like chicken biscuits, so we gave them a try and were amazed by how great they tasted. The taste is pretty similar to that of grilled ham but with that special flavor you can only find in bologna. In fact, the Fried Bologna Biscuits received one of the highest consumer research scores we've ever seen in our market test and they sold exceptionally well. Naturally, our first choice for the bologna was the most popular brand in the country, Oscar Mayer Bologna."

The Oscar Mayer Fried Bologna Biscuit consists of a slice of melting American cheese and a folded egg atop a thick-cut slice of grilled Oscar Mayer bologna, all sandwiched between a signature Hardee's Made From Scratch(tm) biscuit. Also, in a response to many customer requests, Hardee's will bring back its popular Hash Rounds as a side item.

The Oscar Mayer Fried Bologna Biscuit will be sold at participating Hardee's restaurants for $1.89 and is also available in a small combo for $3.59 including Hash Rounds or Country Potatoes and a beverage. Prices may vary by location.
